Mechanism of Action: Rifaximin is an antibiotic. It works by killing the ammonia-producing bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract which reduces recurrence of hepatic encephalopathy.

Indications:

• Used in irritable bowel syndrome
• Hepatic encephalopathy
• In the treatment of traveler's diarrhea
